01 empty lionsA regional conference on "Street involved children in SEE" which will take place in Belgrade, Serbia on 7-8 June 2011. The conference will be organized under the auspices of the Ministry for Interior Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Regional Child Trafficking Response Program (CTRP) of Save the Children Norway, with the support of the OSCE Mission in Serbia and The Migration, Asylum, Refugees Regional Initiative (MARRI).

The conference will bring together around 100 representatives from national institutions,

including relevant ministries, civil society and international organizations, as well as prominent experts from 10 countries in Europe, to discuss key issues related to children on the street in Southeastern Europe. It will serve to initiate broader dialogue between governmental and civil society organizations to identify lessons learnt, challenges, commonalities and joint recommendations for adequate protection and integration of street children at both national and regional levels.

The overall objective of the conference is to identify effective models of support and

protection services to street involved children in order to prevent or reduce the risks of violence, exploitation and abuse, including minimizing the risks of unsafe child migration and risks of trafficking.

The conference will be followed by the meeting of the national coordinators from the 10

countries scheduled for 8 of June, 2011. The focus of the meeting will be the status of the children on the streets and related issues.
